The third week was most definitely the most challenging so far. I had the opportunity to spend some time at two of the work sites, and it really opened my eyes to all the work that goes into each project that Back Bay Mission tackles. After spending those two days working with the volunteers, I gained a massive amount of respect for every person who walks through the doors of the Mission House and gives a week of their summer to help strangers fix their housing situations. I also had the opportunity to meet a little girl who was living in one of the houses, and I can honestly say that she made the experience for me. I had her help me mud the holes in the walls and help me wash the walls; which for some reason, she really enjoyed. At the end of the day, she came up to me and handed me a pile of pictures that she had drawn for me. The connection that I made with her over just a few hours will stay with me throughout this internship and after, and I am so grateful to have met her. Week three was a blast and I cannot wait to experience even more as this internship continues.
