Emergency Assistance Caseworker Jill Cartledge is retiring from Back Bay Mission!

Many of our volunteers know Jill from her work with the food pantry, summer meals program, and Christmas baskets and backpacks projects. Since 2008, Jill has served as the Mission’s emergency assistance caseworker, where she not only manages those programs, but provides utility assistance, case management, and other help to the people we serve.

“It’s been a labor of love for me,” said Jill, “I’m not leaving because I’m burned out, but because Ellen and I don’t know how much longer we’ll be able to travel and we want to do that. I’ve made amazing friends here – staff and volunteers – and I know that I’ll have a connection to the Mission for the rest of my life.

After she retires, Jill plans to tour the United States with her wife, Ellen, in their RV. She may be willing to visit your church or organization while she’s in your area and share about her time at Back Bay Mission. Contact church relations associate Chris Marlin-Warfield for more details and to discuss scheduling a visit.

If you know or have worked with Jill, you can help us celebrate her time at Back Bay Mission by sharing your memories with us! Please send your stories or photos by email to by August 28, 2017, and we’ll share them with Jill and (with her permission) on our website.

Jill’s last day will be August 30, 2017.
