We were fortunate to attend the dedication of the mural honoring the Biloxi Beach Wade-Ins, lead by Dr. Gilbert Mason, & community activist Inez Thomas, painted on the side of Ms. Inez Thomas’s cafe.

The project was a combined effort of community activists, Steps Coalition, Biloxi NAACP, and the artist, Demetrius Gayden. Back Bay Mission’s executive director, Jack Aregood, participated in the 3rd of three wade-ins & can even been seen in the mural.

Our current executive director, Rev. James Pennington, was able to get a few minutes with the artist, Demetrius Gayden. It was a powerful community gathering and Back Bay Mission is so grateful to have been in attendance!
