Back Bay Mission has selected the 2016 Shari Prestemon Social Justice Interns! They are Sheryl Garcia and Sherell Shippen.

Sheryl Garcia is a 20 year old from Dallas, Texas. She will be attending Texas Woman’s University in the Fall of 2016 with the intention of getting her Bachelor of Social Work and, later, her Master of Social Work. She found out about the Shari Prestemon Social Justice Internship through her church, Christ Church United at Firewheel (Garland, Texas), and she’s looking forward to her summer in Biloxi, Mississippi! She’s looking forward to gaining real experience in the social work field and learning what it takes to run an organization like Back Bay Mission. She hopes to be part of the bigger picture someday and really make a difference in the world. She knows that through God, all things are possible.

Sharell Shippen is a dual degree graduate student pursuing her Master of Divinity at Palmer Theological Seminary and her Master of Social Work at West Chester University. She received her undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University. After graduation, she hopes to use her combination of degrees to rebuild and reconcile communities. Sharell is currently interning as an outpatient therapist at Green Tree School & Services Psychiatric Clinic. She is a member of Grace Christian Fellowship, United Church of Christ, in Philadelphia, where she serves as an administrative assistant and youth leader. Sharell also serves as the secretary of the executive committee of the Philadelphia Association of the United Church of Christ. She is a Member in Discernment in the Philadelphia Association.
