Back Bay Mission Providing Summer Meals for Families with Children

By April 2, 2014No Comments

Back Bay Mission will be providing special bags of food to families with children one day each month during May, June, July and August. Each bag will provide one meal to a family of four and will include meat for hamburgers, hot dogs, runs or rolls, macaroni and cheese, cheese slices, apple slices and singe serving cereals.

More than 25% of Mississippians struggle to afford enough food. Children are especially vulnerable during summer months, when access to free or reduced price breakfasts and lunches is more difficult due to school not being in session.

Hunger and poor nutrition put children at risk for illness and weakens their immune system, as well as reducing academic achievement and economic productivity. While hunger and poor nutrition affect everyone, children suffer long term effects when unable to access enough food.

Congregations or individuals interested in sponsoring this project should contact Christopher Marlin-Warfield, church relations associate, at 228-243-5322 or by email The cost to sponsor one bag is $25. Any funds remaining when the project is completed will go to the Mission’s food pantry.
