This is the reality of Back Bay Mission’s Emergency Assistance (EA) program, which helps a select number of neighbors fill gaps in their rent and utility bills.

Every day, we receive numerous calls frantically seeking rental and utility assistance. (If you’ve ever helped with the front desk, you know just how often those calls come in!)

To help meet demand without completely overwhelming our case managers, we began utilizing an online form where Gulf Coast individuals and families can apply for assistance through the EA program. The form opens on the morning of the first Tuesday of each month.

Callers are encouraged to submit their applications immediately upon the form’s opening at 9:00 AM. The sooner they fill the form out, the better the chance they have at receiving aid before the daily allocation is met.

"The need is clearly greater than the resources available. Obviously all people are affected, but we've seen an increase in single mothers with children, and people experiencing medical situations that have put them behind on payments."
Lindsey McClelland
Housing Case Manager & EA Lead

If we were able to, we would say yes to every applicant, every phone call, and every need. But while the demand for support continues to climb, funding remains fixed.

Our Emergency Assistance (EA) Program relies entirely on Back Bay Mission’s internal budget, which we strive to cover each year through local grants and individual donations. As the cost of living rises, that gap grows wider, and resources are stretched thinner than ever before.

How You Can Help Close the Gap

When you give to our Emergency Assistance fund, your gift turns directly into security for a local family.

It means keeping a roof over a child’s head, preventing a sudden eviction, and making sure the lights and heat stay on through a tough month.

Your gift ensures another family is one step closer to remaining housed, and helps to prevent even more unsheltered clients. This is homeless prevention.

Donate now, so Back Bay Mission can say “yes” to even more families when 9:00 AM rolls around.
