We’ve always believed generosity doesn’t have to be fancy.
Sometimes, it shows up wearing flip-flops and a smile.
Recently, something pretty amazing happened here at Back Bay Mission.
Social media influencer Matthew Bounds, better known to his online community as Your Barefoot Neighbor, came strolling into Biloxi allll the way from Gulfport (not quite barefoot) with a mission that aligned perfectly with ours: feed people, spread joy, and make a real difference.
Trucks, Pallets, and a Whole Lot of Love
Thanks to Matthew’s incredible community of followers (and some behind-the-scenes organizing magic), we packed enough food to fill four full trucks and an enclosed trailer—all headed to our food pantry, where it’s already being distributed to our unsheltered neighbors.
We’re talking about big, big donations. He was even able to get Campbell’s and Prego in on the action! They each sent two entire pallets—one of cream of chicken soup and the other of spaghetti sauce. We were practically swimming in pantry staples!
As if organizing a multi-truck food donation wasn’t enough, Matthew also handed us a check for $2,245—a portion of his first-quarter t-shirt sales and a sponsorship through the Pepper app. Shout out to Pepper for seeing the value in barefoot giving!
This donation helps us keep our shelves stocked longer and our programs running strong. With the dramatic increase we’ve seen in food pantry visitors over the past few months, it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Every can, every bag, every dollar—it’s all going straight to the hands of people who need it most, right here on the Gulf Coast.
A Footprint That Matters
There’s something really special about watching strangers come together (online, in-person, across state lines) to care for folks they may never meet. It reminds us that compassion is contagious. Plus when it’s led by someone as joyfully unconventional as Your Barefoot Neighbor, it’s also just plain fun.
Matthew, thank you for walking the walk (literally) and for showing up in a way that left us all a little speechless… and a lot inspired.
To everyone who packed a bag, donated a can, or liked and shared a post: you made a difference.
And our food pantry has never looked so good.
